Family conversation and poetry at Slung Low

A new project to help families integrate starts this Sunday (21 September 2019). ‘No Margins’ is billed as family adventures in poetry and spoken word and runs at The Holbeck club.

Touchstone’s Migrant Access Project Plus (MAP+) are working with Slung Low theatre and local poets after hearing of issues between children born in the UK and their parents who were born abroad.

Nick Lalvani from MAP+ explained:

“People in Holbeck and Beeston shared concerned about difference in perceptions of identity and cultural belonging between children born in Leeds and parents born abroad.

“We want to help people have space to think about and debate these issues in a fun way.”

Parents and children (up to three per family) are invited to join discussions and writing about identity, family and culture.

Nine weekly sessions will lead up a celebration event on 16 November and include a trip to the Ilkley Literature Festival.

The free sessions run every Saturday 11am-1pm at The Holbeck, Jenkinson Lawn, LS11 9QX. Lunch is provided and childcare for under 8s can be arranged.
