‘Mantlepiece’ exhibition at Basement Arts

As we fast approach the shortest day of the year, 21 December, BasementArtsProject brings to you an exhibition that draws upon light as an integral component of new work by Leeds based duo Lens&Chisel.

MantlePiece

As with their January exhibition in 2015, ‘Other Rooms’, whose works emitted their own light by which to explore them, here light becomes central to the process of explicating the processes and concerns surrounding these new sculptural works in marble. This is the last in what has been a very busy year for exhibitions here in South Leeds.

Forged by intense heat and pressure over millions of years beneath the surface of the earth, Cararra marble is a material revered by sculptors and historians. This exhibition of new work by creative duo Lens&Chisel takes us on a subterranean journey from marble to light, using each along the way to reveal often unseen qualities of the other.
