White Rose immortalises Yorkshire sporting icons for Yorkshire Day

Say hello to Yorkshire’s smallest group of home-grown sporting heroes, as White Rose Shopping Centre unveils a unique collection of custom mini figures printed on genuine LEGO® parts in celebration of Yorkshire Day – and the set could be yours.

Tomorrow (1 August 2019), a selection of Yorkshire’s great sporting heroes have been immortalised in miniature brick form, including double gold medallist Nicola Adams OBE, world record-holding Paralympian Hannah Cockroft MBE, decorated triathletes the Brownlee brothers, plus Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa, complete with ‘Spygate’ binoculars and sat on his trademark blue bucket.

The unique collection of heroes is part of White Rose’s Yorkshire Day celebrations, and can be collected for free by eager shoppers. From August 1-4, the first 25 customers to arrive at the White Rose Customer Service Centre at 12pm, will receive a minifigure, with each character being given out over the four days. The schedule for mini-model giveaways are:

  • Thursday 1 August – Nicola Adams OBE
  • Friday 2 August – Hannah Cockroft MBE
  • Saturday 3 August – Marcelo Bielsa
  • Sunday 4 August – Alistair and Jonny Brownlee

The small yet mighty collection of sporting greats will join the Bricktastic animal heroes exhibition currently on display around White Rose Shopping Centre, which sees 13 life-size animals containing more than 500,000 LEGO® bricks take over the centre.

Customers are also able to donate any used LEGO® bricks to Brick 42, a Community Interest Company which run LEGO® therapy for people with autism. Used bricks can be dropped off at the donation station by the Customer Service Centre.

Steven Foster, General Manager at White Rose Shopping Centre, said:

“This summer, we’re celebrating heroes of all kinds, that’s why we’re incredibly excited to immortalise some of the county’s most treasured sporting stars in miniature brick form for this year’s Yorkshire Day.

“People young and old have memories of playing, building and collecting LEGO® bricks, so we can’t wait to offer this unique collection of mini-Yorkshire heroes to the Leeds public – but be quick, they won’t be around for long!”

Sporting mini figures will be given away on a first come-first served basis starting at 12pm on 1 August, with 25 of each character on offer each day. Shoppers are to visit the Customer Service Desk to collect their figure.

Alongside the mini-figures, White Rose will be celebrating Yorkshire Day with a brass band who’ll be performing popular hits throughout the day. Performances will take place throughout the centre at 11am, 1pm and 3pm on 1 August 2019.
