What’s On Roundup 9–15 April 2022

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start on Saturday morning with Leeds Dads who will be at the Little Angels Playzone at Sugar Mill off Dewsbury Road near the Tommy Wass. The soft play, tea and cake starts at 10am.

The Oracle is a free concert and family event at The Holbeck. Doors open at 1:30pm for food and lantern making before a 3pm performance of Manchester Collective and Abel Selaocoe’s new work The Oracle. Book at www.slunglow.org/shows

Hunslet TARA have organised a Q&A with Hilary Benn MP at 2pm on Saturday at Hunslet Community Hub & Library.

Hunslet Club Parkside ARLFC are playing at home on Saturday at Station Moor, Beza Street (opposite the Gardeners Arms). Pilkington Recs are the visitors and kick off is at 2.30pm. Admission £3.

Sunday starts with Recovery Runners who are holding their Leeds Dock Dash 5k run at 9am. The race costs £5 and please bring an Easter Egg to be given to charity. It’s all happening at The Glass Box on Leeds Dock.

Hunslet TARA will be litterpicking, meet at 12pm at the Church of the Nazarene on Grove Road.

There are two Palm Sunday Parades on Sunday, both featuring donkeys. In the morning a procession will leave the Salvation Army on Hunslet Hall Road and walk up to St Luke’s Church on Malvern Road, finishing with donkey rides and live music outside the church from 11:30am. Then at 2pm the Hunslet Initiative’s parade will set off from Church Street.

Slung Low present The Chris Arnold Experience, a comedic look at life complete with PowerPoint presentation, at The Holbeck club on Monday at 7:30pm. Book at www.slunglow.org/shows

On Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, the Friends of Middleton Park have organised some free play activities for children, by the Visitor Centre. On Tuesday 1-3pm it’s exercise and dance with DAZL, then on Wednesday it’s den building from 12-3pm.

There are two Easter Egg hunts on Friday. City Evangelical Church have organised a hunt in Cross Flatts Park, Beeston from 11am-1pm. Hunslet TARA have organised a hunt and crafts session from 12-3pm on Hunslet Common, off Church Street.

The Royal Armouries Museum at Leeds Dock is hosting a four day jousting tournament which starts on Friday. tickets are £10 adults, £5 children, under 3s are free. Entrance to the museum is free.

And finally, Hunslet RLFC’s traditional Good Friday tie with Keighley Cougars kicks off at 7:30pm under the lights at South Leeds Stadium. Tickets cost £15, £10 concessions and under 16s are free.
