What’s On Roundup 5-11 April 2025

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week in Beeston where Cross Flatts parkrun celebrates its 12th birthday. The 5k walk, jog, or run starts at 9am near the bowling greens. Fancy dress is not mandatory, but is encouraged.

Middleton Railway reopens on Saturday with its annual Community Day. Train rides are free and there’s a chance to meet a host of local voluntary groups with varied interests including local history, wildlife, sporting groups and activities for the elderly.

Leeds Dads are holding a free Soft Play session, 10am-12pm on Saturday morning at Little Angels behind the Tommy Wass pub, LS11 7HL. This for dads and pre-school children and there’s free tea and toast!

Volunteers will be meeting at 10am on Saturday at Hunslet Cemetery, Middleton Road, to carry out various tidying up activities. New people are always welcome and equipment is provided.

The Church of the Nazarene host a coffee morning with affordable breakfast on Saturday morning, 10am-12pm. Lupton Street, Hunslet, LS10 2QR.

On Saturday afternoon the Beeston Repair Café launches. Bring broken electricals, cloths needing alterations, a bike that needs attention. The volunteer fixers will do their best to mend them. 1-4pm at St Luke’s CARES shop, 246 Dewsbury Road, LS11 6JQ.

Also on Saturday the Leeds Knights take on the Hull Seahawks in the NIHL National League Playoffs. The ice hockey match faces off at 6:30pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.

It’s the Friends of Middleton Park’s monthly litter pick on Sunday. Meet at the Visitor Centre by the lake at 1:30pm. Equipment will be provided, but wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather.

Fidget Theatre bring their child friendly show Pirate Bonnie to Belle Isle TMO’s GATE centre (LS10 3QH) on Monday at 2pm. A swashbuckling adventure for children and their grown ups. Pirate Bonnie is looking for treasure – but no ordinary treasure, for she is no ordinary Pirate. The treasures she seeks are stories, the long-lost stories of legendary Pirates. As it’s the first Monday of April there are a two residents meetings taking place, starting with Middleton Community Group which meets on Monday, 6-7pm, at the Middleton Elderly Aid Social Centre, Acre Road, LS10 4LF.

Also on Monday, the Greenmounts & Surrounding Area Tenants & Residents Association meets at 6:30pm at Rowland Road Working Men’s Club, LS11 6ED.

There are two opportunities for children to spend a day playing outdoors at Skelton Grange Environment Centre in Stourton on Tuesday or Wednesday, 10am-4pm. Activities may include campfire cooking, crafts, shelter building, stalking and tracking, and/or wide games. For children aged 8-13 years. The support group for women going through the menopause holds its monthly drop-in session on Tuesday evening, 7-8pm at Hamara Healthy Living Centre, Tempest Road, Beeston, LS11 6RD. Women can receive information, support, some freebies, and the chance to make new friends in a safe and confidential supportive environment. Refreshments will be provided.

The Middleton Life History Group meets on Wednesday at 10am at the United Reformed Church, Nesfield Road, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG.

The Leeds Stoma Support group are holding a get together on Wednesday at the White Rose Shopping Centre management suite (near the food court) from 5-7pm. This is open to anyone with a Colostomy, Ileostomy or Urostomy, partners and carers. It’s a chance to meet others and there will be a Stoma Nurse present as well as suppliers.

Women (16+) are encouraged to prioritise their mental and physical well-being with this amazing opportunity to get 6 weeks of free access to the gym, sauna, and steam at Hamara Healthy Living Centre in Beeston. Hunslet Tenants and Residents Association meet on Friday at 6 pm at the Involve Community Centre, Whitfield Avenue, Hunslet, LS10 2QE.

And finally, Hunslet RLFC take on league leaders Halifax Panthers under the lights at South Leeds Stadium on Friday night, kicking off at 7:45pm. Tickets at: hunsletrflc.ticketco.events/uk
