
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.
We start this week in Hunslet where The Church of the Nazarene host their monthly coffee morning with affordable breakfast on Saturday morning, 10am-12pm. Lupton Street, LS10 2QR.
There will be a Councillor Surgery at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street (LS11 8PN) from 10am-12pm on Saturday.
Saturday is Apple Day in Belle Isle. Incredible Edible invite you to 58 Belle Isle Circus between 11am-3pm for apple pressing, tai chi, barbecue, live painting and apple bobbing.
On Saturday afternoon the Beeston Repair Café returns. Bring broken electricals, clothes needing alterations, a bike that needs attention. The volunteer fixers will do their best to mend them. 1-4pm at St Luke’s CARES shop, 246 Dewsbury Road, LS11 6JQ.
The Friends of Middleton Park are also holding their monthly litterpick on Sunday, meeting at the visitor centre by the lake at 1:30pm. Equipment is provided.
Middleton Primary School is holding a series of Open Days this month. You can visit the school on Monday, 9:15am and 2:30pm; Wednesday, 3:30pm; and Thursday 9:15am and 2:30pm. The school is on Middleton Park Avenue, LS10 4HU. Call 0113 271 7969 or email info@middletonprimary.org
MHA Communities South Leeds is starting a Knit and Natter Group on Monday. The weekly sessions will run from 10:30-11:30am at Hunslet Community Hub & Library, Waterloo Street, LS10 2NS.
There is a Police Contact Point at Cottingley Community Centre on Monday, 10am-12pm. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. There is another chance on Thursday, 10am-12pm at St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck, LS11 9NR
As it’s the first week of October there are a number of residents meetings taking place, starting with Middleton Community Group which meets on Monday, 6-7pm, at the Middleton Elderly Aid Social Centre, Acre Road, LS10 4LF.
The Garnet and Oakley Tenants & Residents Association also meet on Monday at 6:30pm at the St Luke’s CARES Charity shop, 246 Dewsbury Road, LS11 6JQ.
Buy, Sell, Swap is the new version of the jumble or car boot sale and you can take part in one at Manorfield Hall Community Centre, Newhall Road, LS10 3RR on Tuesday 10-11:30am. Entry is free, refreshments will be on sale, get down a buy, sell or swap new and used items.
Are you struggling with your computer? If so drop in to Tech Tuesday at Jamyang Buddhist Centre in Holbeck (LS11 9RQ), 10am-2pm for expert advice.
Stronger Together is a friendly support group for parents, guardians and carers who care for children and young people with disabilities. It is a monthly space to chat and share. The next meeting is on Tuesday, 11am-1pm at BITMO’s GATE, Aberfield Gate, LS10 3QH.
On Wednesday, the Greenmounts & Surrounding Area Tenants & Residents Association meets at 6:30pm at Rowland Road Working Men’s Club, LS11 6ED.
And finally, on Friday evening, 7-9pm Rooted, the community arts project is holding a workshop at The Loft, in Holbeck. Entitled ‘Have a go at drawing – Still life with Plants’ you will use pencil, charcoal, acrylics and watercolours. Booking essential: call Tania on 07917 157830.
