What’s On Roundup: 29 February – 5 March 2020

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

Unfortunately due to ongoing severe weather conditions, all Leeds City Council sports pitches will be closed this weekend.

Cross Flatts parkrun is on and is celebrating the fact that Saturday is a Leap Day by reversing their course around Cross Flatts Park. Luckily it’s only the route that is backwards, participants don’t have to run backwards! As usual the 5 km free run, jog or walk starts at 9am at the top (Beeston Road) end of the park.

Once you’ve got your breath back, why not pop into The Watsonian Pavilion for their new monthly Food & Craft Market on Saturday 9:30am-12:30pm. All the stalls will have locally produced goods.

I’m sure lots of people will be disappointed that the litter pick on Hunslet Moor has been cancelled on Saturday.

There’s another Free Family Fitness session at St Mary’s in Beeston on Saturday 1:30-2:30pm. The session involves a mix of playground games, circuits and yoga.

Beeston Parish Centre hosts a concert by Boundless Voices on Saturday evening at 7pm. The £5 ticket includes a Pie & Peas supper from (0113) 414 4317.

Pie & Peas is also on the menu at The Holbeck when Slung Low present their Spring Cabaret. The show starts at 7pm, but if you haven’t got a ticket I’m afraid it’s sold out.

The Secret Cinema returns to Hunslet Community Hub on Monday at 3:45pm. The free family-friendly film will be accompanied by free juice and popcorn.

There is a residents meeting at the Hamara Centre on Monday evening at 6:30pm. This is a chance to find out what’s happening in the Beeston Hill area and raise issues with your Councillors, the Police and other agencies.

Have you got an hour or two a week spare? Could you befriend an older person? Find out more from South Leeds Live At Home on Tuesday, 10:30am-12:30pm at Hunslet Community Hub.

Your local Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) will also be at Hunslet Community Hub on Tuesday 10am-12pm for a chat over a cuppa.

Speaking of cuppas, The Time For A Cuppa event in aid of Dementia UK takes place on Tuesday from 12pm at BITMOs GATE in Belle Isle. There will be food, entertainment and raffles.

The Friends of Stank Hall hold their monthly meeting at The Broadway pub on Dewsbury Road on Tuesday, 7:30pm.

The Inner South Community Committee meets on Wednesday at 2pm at BITMOs GATE in Belle Isle. The meeting is open to the public and you can raise issues or put questions to Councillors in the Open forum section.

Hunslet Tenants & Residents Association will be discussing the Climate Emergency amongst other issues at their meeting on Wednesday, 6:30pm at the Church of the Nazarene, Grove Road.

Hunslet Carr Residents Association meets on Thursday, 6:30pm at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre.

And finally, Beeston Community Forum also meets on Thursday, 7:30pm at The Old White Hart pub on Town Street.
