What’s On Roundup 24-30 June 2023

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week in Cross Flatts Park where there will be no parkrun on Saturday. Runners are encouraged to visit Middleton Woods at Leeds Urban Bike Park.

The reason that parkrun is cancelled is because a small army of volunteers will be preparing the park for Beeston Festival which kicks off at 12noon and runs through until 5pm.

Budding young footballers (Years 7-9) should head to Pepper Road playing fields on Saturday morning, 10:30am-12pm for South Leeds Allstars inaugural training session.

The Holbeck Repair Café takes place on Saturday afternoon, 1-4pm, at The Holbeck Club, Jenkinson Lawn. If you have a household item in need of repair, take it along to be fixed. The café is still looking for more repair fixers, so if you have some skills please get involved.

Disney fans should make their way to the White Rose Shopping Centre on Sunday, 12-5pm, where they can meet and greet five Disney princesses.

As it’s the last Sunday of the month you can take a musical history tour of Old Chapel Studios at Czar Street in Holbeck.

The Friends of Middleton Park will be leading a history walk around the park looking at the varied sports and recreational activities that have taken place in the park. Meet at the Visitor Centre by the lake at 1:30pm.

On Wednesday morning you can join the volunteers tidying and gardening in Holbeck Cemetery on Beeston Road. Meet at 10am, bring water and lunch, all tools provided.

On Wednesday evening Songwriters and Songborrowers will gather at Hunslet Methodist Church, Telford Terrace, Balm Road at 7:30pm. Bring a guitar, your voice, or just your ears to listen to others.

Hunslet Remembered is a chance to reminisce and discuss local history on Thursday from 10am-12pm at Hunslet Community Hub & Library.

MHA Leeds South will be serving up Breakfast Bites on Friday morning, 9-10:30am at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre in Hunslet Carr.

And finally, on Friday residents of Beeston & Holbeck can meet their Councillors at the monthly surgeries: 4pm at Beeston Library on Town Street; 5pm at St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck; and 6pm at Cottingley Community Centre.

While you’re here, can we ask a favour?

South Leeds Life is published by a not-for-profit social enterprise. We keep our costs as low as possible but we’ve been hit by increases in the print costs for our monthly newspaper – up 83% in the last 12 months.
