What’s On Roundup 2–8 December 2023

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week at Middleton Railway where the first Santa Special of the festive season will puff out of Moor Road station at 10am. Hurry to book your tickets as they are selling out fast.

Middleton Park Equestrian Centre is holding its Christmas Charity Dog Show on Saturday 11am-3pm. Classes to suit all dogs, pet portraits, agility course, stalls and refreshments. Middleton Grove, LS11 5TZ.

Also on Saturday Leeds United entertain Middlesbrough at Elland Road. Kick-off is at 3pm and you can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley.

St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, Beeston, LS11 8PD, is holding a Film Night on Saturday afternoon from 4:30pm. The movie is free, but we will have popcorn, hotdogs, chocolate and drinks for sale at 50p per item.

The Hunslet Rogues theatre company present The Greatest Showman on Saturday and Sunday at 5pm at The Hunslet Club, Hillidge Road, LS10 . Standard tickets are £5, family tickets are £15 (2 adults, 2 children), and those under 3 go free book here.

Grab a free ticket and join the Leeds Dads free Family Christmas Party with Boom Chicka Boom! 2-4pm on Sunday at The Old Cockburn Sports Hall, Primrose Lane, Beeston LS11 5EW.

There are two residents meetings taking place on Monday, starting with Middleton Community Group which meets on Monday, 6-7pm, at the Middleton Elderly Aid Social Centre, Acre Road, LS10 4LF.

Also on Monday, the Greenmounts & Surrounding Area Tenants & Residents Association meets at 6:30pm at Rowland Road Working Men’s Club, LS11 6ED.

Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library will be hosting free Flu and Covid Vaccine clinics on Tuesday, 10am-4pm. You’re able to have your vaccine if you are: Pregnant; 65 years old or over; Have a long term health condition; Frontline health and social care worker; Aged 16–64 and are a carer; Aged 12–64 and live with someone with a weakened immune system. The healthcare professionals at the clinic will be happy to answer any questions you may have about winter vaccines.

Join the festive storytelling and rhymes for children under 5’s and their families at Santa Story & Rhyme Times with a surprise visit from Santa himself bearing gifts. At Beeston Community Hub & Library, Town Street, LS11 8PN on Tuesday 10:30-11:30am.

The Mobile Community Hub & Library will be parked up opposite Cottingley Towers on Wednesday 10am-12pm.

Red Ladder Theatre bring a new production to BITMO’s Gate Centre in Belle Isle this month. Santa Must Die! is a raucous new punk theatre show for the gig economy at the most difficult time of the year! You can catch Santa Must Die! at BITMO’s Gate, Aberfield Gate, LS10 3QH on Wednesday 6 December at 7:30pm. Tickets cost £5 from bit.ly/SantaDie

On Thursday Bridgewater Place (the Dalek building) is hosting a Winter Wonderland Christmas Market. Pupils from Sharp Lane Primary School will be singing carols and there will be festive music from the Sound Track Brass Band as you browse the independent craft stalls.

Hunslet Carr Residents Association meets on Thursday, 6:30pm, at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre, LS10 2EF

Also on Thursday, Beeston Community Forum meets at 7:30pm at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ.

And finally, Friday sees Beeston bathed in light as the Christmas Lantern Festival returns. Join activities at Rowland Road Club, LS11 6ED, St Mary’s Church, Town Street, LS11 8PN or St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, LS11 8PD from 4:15pm. Then process to Cross Flatts Park for more activities including carol singing with the Salvation Army Band from 5:30pm
