
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.
We start this week with a reminder that Middleton Railway is back open. There will be a diesel service running on Saturday and as it’s a Bank Holiday there will be steam services on Sunday and Monday. The museum and café at Moor Road, LS10 2JQ is open 10am-4pm with trains running from 10:30am-3:30pm
There is an internation jousting tournament at the Royal Armouries Museum at Leeds Dock all weekend. Tickets cost £5 – £20 (Free carers tickets available). For more information visit the website.
The Rowland Road Play Patch, co-ordinated by Yorkshire Contemporary at Rowland Road WMC in Beeston is now open every Saturday 11am-2pm. This Saturday will feature a bug hunt, pot painting and an egg hunt.
There are two performances of Hold Onto Your Butts, the hilarious, family-friendly parody of Jurassic Park on Saturday. 2pm and 7:30pm at Slung Low’s Warehouse in Holbeck, Crosby Street, LS11 9RQ. Tickets from www.slunglow.org/shows
Visit the Belle Isle Repair Café’s fixers and stitchers with your broken things and see if they can repair them for free. Get your kitchen knives and scissors resharpened. There will be toasties and tea and a colouring competition for the kids plus join the planning for Belle Isle Gala at 3pm. It’s all at BITMO’s Gate, LS10 3QH, 1-4pm on Saturday.
On Sunday The Hunslet Club’s Easter Party promises an egg hunt, an Easter craft corner, a visit from the Easter Bunny and of course refreshments and treats. It all takes place at the club on Hillidge Road, LS10 1BP from 12-3pm and is open to the whole community.
The Friends of Hunslet Moor have also organised an Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday 12-4pm. There will be refreshments, games, a tombola and a visit from the Easter Bunny. It takes place at their hub off Moor Road, behind the purple flats.
It’s also the Leeds Corinthians’ Easter Party at their Nutty Slack base in Middleton, LS10 4AX, from 1-4pm. There will be an Easter bonnet competition as well as an egg hunt, disco and lots of family fun.
If you out and about in Middleton Park on Monday be aware that over 1,000 runners will be taking part in an orienteering event between 8:30am-2:30pm, as part of the Jan Kjellström International Festival of Orienteering.
On Monday afternoon Leeds United entertain Stoke City at Elland Road. Kick-off is at 3pm and you can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley.
Join Opera North for fun weekly creative music workshops, where you’ll have the chance to work with a songwriter and poet to create a brand new piece of music telling the stories you want to tell. The next session is on Tuesday 1:30-3:30pm at Involve Centre in Hunslet, LS10 2QE.
On Wednesday, the Greenmounts & Surrounding Area Tenants & Residents Association will hold its annual general meeting (AGM) at 6:30pm at Rowland Road Working Men’s Club, LS11 6ED.
Hunslet Remembered is a chance to reminisce and discuss local history on Thursday from 10am-12pm at Hunslet Community Hub & Library, off Church Street, LS10 2NS.
School of Night’s unique blend of literary improvisation comes to Slung Low Temple, Bath Road, LS11 9UD on Thursday 24 April at 7:30pm for their 20th anniversary show. Tickets from www.slunglow.org/shows
There is a Police Contact Point at Cottingley Community Centre on Friday, 10am-12pm. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting.
And finally, on Friday residents of Beeston & Holbeck ward can meet their Councillors at the monthly surgeries: 4pm at Beeston Library on Town Street; 5pm at St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck; and 6pm at Cottingley Community Centre.
