What’s On Roundup 17-23 June 2023

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week in Hunslet where Saturday is Gala day. The annual event takes place on the recreation ground by Church Street and Grove Road and features performances from local groups, stalls, children’s entertainment and lots more. The fun starts at 11:30am and runs until 4pm.

The Belle Isle Repair Café takes place on Saturday afternoon, 1-4pm, at BITMO’s Gate centre, Aberfield Gate, LS10 3QH. If you have a household item in need of repair, take it along to be fixed. The café is still looking for more repair fixers, so if you have some skills please get involved. Contact gate@belleisletmo.co.uk

Hunslet ARLFC continue their campaign in the National Conference Premiere Division on Saturday. The league leaders host fifth place York Acorn at The Oval, opposite Morrisons. Kick off is at 2:30pm.

Football Freddie’ continues its community tour at Middleton Parochial Hall, North Lingwell Road, LS10 3SP on Saturday. The family friendly show starts at 4pm. Tickets are just £3, read our review here.

On Sunday promotion chasing Hunslet RLFC take on Cornwall at South Leeds Stadium. Kick off is at 3pm, tickets are £15, £10 concessions and kids under 16 are free.

The mobile Community Hub and Library service will be visiting Cottingley on Wednesday and will be located opposite Cottingley Towers, next to the shops, 10am-12pm.

Watch out for runners if you’re in Middleton Park on Wednesday evening. The South Leeds Lakers running club is hosting an event in the Yorkshire Veterans Athletics Association’s Grand Prix series of trail races. The race starts at 7pm on The Clearings.

And finally, music hall, theatre and drag king cabaret erupt as Modest brings you Elizabeth Thompson – megastar of the Victorian art scene. Performed by a cast of actor-musicians, this punk-spirited show will break your heart and start a revolution. Slung Low present the show at the Warehouse in Holbeck, Crosby Street, Holbeck, Leeds LS11 9RQ on Friday at 7:30pm. Book pay what you decide tickets at www.slunglow.org/shows
