What’s On Roundup 12-18 August 2023

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start on Saturday morning with the Middleton Makers Market, 10am-2pm, at Middleton Park Circus. Lots of lovely handmade items including clothing, jewelery, soaps and food; all made by local people.

Everyone’s welcome at the Reetwirlers Majorettes Fun Day on Saturday, 12-4pm at The Holbeck club, Jenkinson Lawn, LS11 9QX. Featuring a tombola, bottle game, bouncy castle, hook-a-duck, glitter face paint, stalls.

Re:establish are holding a Table Top Sale on Saturday, 1-4pm at Hillside in Beeston, please use the entrance from St Luke’s Green only.

The South Leeds Community Kitchen will be cooking up a free meal on Sunday, 4-5:45pm, at St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, Beeston Hill.

It’s Yorkshire Enjoy Cricket week Monday 14-Wednesday 16 August, 9:45am-3pm. £10 per day including refreshments and food. Book at bit.ly/HunsletNelson.  Location: Gipsy Lane, Beeston, LS11 5TT

Monday also sees the start of Youth Zone, a new project from Hunslet Rugby Foundation running at Leeds Corinthians, next to Middleton Leisure Centre, LS10 4AX, Monday-Friday 2:30-5:30pm, offering free games, music, fun. Book: michael.nuttall@hunsletrugbyfoundation.co.uk

On Monday Holbeck Together have a trip to visit the National Railway Museum in York. Picking up at 9am returning at 4pm, £10, book (0113) 245 5553 or email admin@holbecktogether.org

There are three chances to catch up with PCSOs from the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team this week. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub and Library, off Church Street; on Wednesday they will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library; and on Thursday at Beeston Community Hub and Library, Town Street. Each drop in session runs 10am-12pm.

Children’s theatre group Wrongsemble will be bringing their show The (Not So) Big Bad Wolf to BITMO’s Gate on Wednesday. Little Red Riding Hood is on a mission to debunk the myths around her so called nemesis, with the help of a few storybook favourites, her red invisibility cloak, and a basket full of music, mayhem and magic tricks! Suitable for children aged 4+. BITMO’s Gate Centre is at Aberfield Gate, Belle Isle, LS10 3QH.

Leeds Baby Bank will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Thursday 10am-12pm offering support to people to access support services, community activity and longer-term support. They also gift families an essential top-up of items like nappies, wipes, formula and toiletries.

Thursday also sees the Library Social at Hunslet Community Hub & Library, off Church Street, 12:30-2pm.

On Friday Leeds United entertain West Bromwich Albion at Elland Road. Kick-off is at 8pm and you can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley.
