
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.
We start this week in Cross Flatts Park, Beeston where Beeston in Bloom will be marking the Love Your Park initiative. You are invited to join them between 10am-12pm for some litter picking and gardening. Tools, gloves and equipment will be provided.
White Rose Shopping Centre is celebrating Yorkshire Day on Saturday. Renowned musicians Back Chat Brass will be performing at the centre throughout the day, with 20-minute sets taking place at intervals between 10am and 2pm. Plus you can browse local produce at the Yorkshire Market in the The Village.
There is a Summer Fair this Saturday at Trinity Network in Belle Isle, LS10 3LG. There’ll be a free pop-up beach and pool for the kids, plus lots of fun for the whole family. 11am-3pm
The Friends of Middleton Park are also holding their monthly litterpick on Sunday, meeting at the visitor centre by the lake at 1:30pm. Equipment is provided.
On Sunday you can join Beeston Hill Community Association for another Picnic In The Park. Bring some food (vegetarian) to share a blanket and your heart filled with live for your community. It all takes place outside the Watsonian Pavilion in Cross Flatts Park between 2-4pm.
The Coliseum of Chaos comes to Slung Low’s Warehouse in Holbeck on Sunday for not one, but two shows at 2pm (family) and 7:30pm (18+). The show is a fast, interactive, and hilariously chaotic theatrical experience. Two absurd Gladiators worship an onstage Amazon Alexa, their all-powerful overlord, who commands them to battle each other, perform ridiculous feats, or drag the audience into increasingly silly games. Young families are invited to Hunslet Square (outside the Library) on Monday for a fun, free outdoor play event packed with creativity, activity and community spirit. Drop in anytime between 10:30am-12noon and stay for as long as you like. Activities include: Water play, Sand pit, Chalk art, Craft activity, Den building and much more.
On Monday a new Bollywood dance class starts at Beeston Village Community Centre (LS11 8DQ). “Health and Wellbeing with Bollywood Dancing and Tea” runs every Monday, 11am-12:30pm. The Garnet and Oakley Tenants & Residents Association meet on Monday at 6:30pm at the St Luke’s CARES Charity shop, 246 Dewsbury Road, LS11 6JQ.
Buy, Sell, Swap is the new version of the jumble or car boot sale and you can take part in one at Manorfield Hall Community Centre, Newhall Road, LS10 3RR on Tuesday 10-11:30am. Entry is free, refreshments will be on sale, get down a buy, sell or swap new and used items.
LDM are running free community basketball sessions in Cross Flatts Park for 8-14 year olds on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am-12pm through the school holidays. Information and registration at: www.letsdomore.org.uk/registration
Are you struggling with your computer? If so drop in to Tech Tuesday at Jamyang Buddhist Centre in Holbeck (LS11 9RQ), 10am-2pm for expert advice.
There’s another Youth Service Summer Activity Day taking place on Tuesday at Hunslet Moor, Beeston, LS11 5NL. The free event runs from 12-3pm.
There’s more computer support on offer on Wednesday with the Digital 121 Support drop in session at Beeston Community Hub & Library (LS11 8PN) 10-11am and at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library (LS11 6PF) from 1:30-2:30pm.
Breeze In The Park comes to Coopers Field in Belle Isle on Wednesday with two sessions: 12-2:30pm and 3-5:30pm. Expect sports, games, art and music – and, of course, Breeze’s famous giant inflatables.
There is a drop-in councillor surgery at Gascoigne House, LS10 4YA in Middleton on Thursday morning 9-10am.
There is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. On Thursday they will be at St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck, LS11 9NR from 10am-12pm.

Beeston Community Forum meets at 7pm on Thursday at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ.
Middleton Elderly Aid host their monthly free legal advice drop-in on Friday morning from 9:30-11:30am at their Social Centre on Acre Road, LS10 4LF.
And finally, Breeze In The Park comes to Middleton Park on Friday with two sessions: 12-2:30pm and 3-5:30pm. Expect sports, games, art and music – and, of course, Breeze’s famous giant inflatables. There will also be a relaxed and quieter session for children with additional needs from 11am-12pm.
