What’s going on at your local library?

It’s not just books! There is a network of integrated Community Hubs & Libraries offering a huge range of Council services in South Leeds.

Hubs are located at Town Street and Dewsbury Road in Beeston, Church Street, Hunslet, St George’s Centre in Middleton and the mobile Hub visits Holbeck (outside St Matthew’s community centre) twice a week.

All the Hubs offer:

  • Library services
  • Free computer, internet and wi-fi
  • Free digital support
  • Employment support
  • Help and advice with all Council services including Council Tax, Housing Leeds, Leeds Benefit Services, Welfare Rights, Money Advice, Hate Crime reporting, hire a community space, Registrars

Of course you can still borrow books from the library too. If you’re online it’s as easy to order that new book you want to read from the library as it is to buy it – and it’s free.

Leeds Credit Union also has branches at Middleton St George’s and Dewsbury Road Hubs.

If you are looking for work there are Jobshop teams at Dewsbury Road, Hunslet and St George’s Hubs. They can support anyone looking for work whether you are unemployed; working and looking for more hours or another job; on a zero hours contract; claiming benefits; or not claiming any benefits.

If you are thinking of starting your own business a new course has just started on Tuesdays at Dewsbury Road. Run by the library’s Business and Intellectual Property Centre, the six workshops are for people who have a pre-start up or fledgling business under 3 years. You can find booking details via social media.

Dewsbury Road is also now hosting advice sessions run by Citizens Advice Bureau every Friday morning.

Dewsbury Road, Hunslet and St George’s Community Hubs and Libraries provided a Healthy Holidays scheme over the Easter Holidays. Many Children from the South area of Leeds attended and enjoyed a number of fun activities such as Planet Ice, Multi Sports, Drawing Workshops, Story Trails and Gardening.

They enjoyed an energy boosting start to the day with fruit, yoghurt and juice, and a healthy warm meal at lunchtime. Plans are underway for the long summer scheme.

There are many other activities taking place at the Hubs: family film shows, women’s groups, crafting, table tennis, book clubs and many more. Keep up to date by following them on Facebook and Twitter.
