Wade’s Charity offers Covid recovery grants to community groups

Wade’s Charity has been enhancing the quality of life for the residents of inner city Leeds for nearly 500 years providing grants to locally based charities and volunteer-led community groups. Supported activities include youth groups, play schemes, elderly welfare and social groups, arts including participation and performance, social groups for those with disabilities, sports clubs, improvements to local public open space and many more worthy causes.

With Covid-19 having had a dramatic effect on fund raising opportunities, many charities and small groups across Leeds are struggling to continue to provide the services and support the local community relies upon.

To help small groups and charities kick start their services now that Covid-19 restrictions are starting to be lifted, Wade’s Charity are offering such organisations the opportunity to apply for a grant of up to £500 towards costs associated with re-starting activities post lockdown.

There are a few restrictions, for example Wade’s are unable to support CICs or organisations primarily focused on health or education. In addition, as these grants are targeted towards smaller organisations, applicants must have had income of less than £20,000 in the last year. All applicants must be working in the pre-1974 boundary of Leeds (roughly LS1-LS17).

As well as providing community grants, Wade’s Charity also owns huge swathes of parkland, open spaces and sports grounds across Leeds such as Middleton Park and Gotts Park, which are let to Leeds City Council.

If you are a small group, voluntary organisation or charity and feel you would benefit from a grant of up to £500 to re-start your activities, visit the Grants section on the Wade’s Charity website
