Time to celebrate Older People

South Leeds has so many events lined up for the International Day of Older People that they’ve spread them over a week.

The events listed, based on this year’s theme: Age Friendly Leeds, are all open to the general public, as well as older people.

Middleton Memories is an exhibition running at Middleton Elderly Aid’s Social Centre on Acre Road until Monday 7 October. And you can buy the calendar for just £3.

Leeds Irish Health and Homes are staging ‘Ceol agus Craic’ (Music and Fun) at Beeston Parish Centre on Town Street. The event will have a wide programme of events demonstrating the wealth of talents and skills of Leeds Irish Health and Homes’ (LIHH) older service users. It takes place from 11am-2pm on Wednesday 2 October.

Fun, Laughter & Life is the theme of Thursday’s (3 October) celebration at Tenants Hall Enterprise Centre, 10:30am-12:30pm. Anyone over 50 is invited to attend and celebrate ageing with music, food, and a chance to mix with other older people from different cultures. Please bring a dish of your culture to share.

Then on Monday 7 October its Holbeck Elderly Aid’s turn as Skippco Arts show an exhibition of photos taken in and around Holbeck by participants of a recent inter-generational project called ‘A Shared Space’. Participants will also be able to have their photo taken in a photo booth holding a photograph, object or words that are important to them. The event runs from 1-3pm at Ingram Gardens Community Centre.
