St Cross Toy Appeal – put a smile on a child’s face this Christmas

St Cross Church in Acre Road, Middleton is making an appeal to the public for help in putting a much needed smile on the faces of children in Middleton this Christmas.

They have launched their annual Christmas toy appeal and have so far collected over 100 toys and their GoFundMe page has raised over £580 with a generous donation of £500 from Phil Davison Scaffolding.

The church has made a pledge to help at least 25 families minimum this season and has sought help from the local school and housing officer in identifying the most vulnerable children and families due to redundancy from the Covid 19 pandemic.

Sarah Markillie from the voluntary team commented

“In a difficult year where children have lost their freedom of movement, not seen grandparents and family and friends for months, watched their parents struggle to pay for food after losing their work, to have Santa put a smile on their faces will be truly magical.”

The toy appeal is specifically making a request for boys toys and gifts aged 8+, board games and role play toys. Can you help put a smile and peace on a person’s face this festive season? If so, donation can be dropped off at the church (please wear face covering) or you can donate online on the GoFundMe page here.
