Volunteers from community groups across South Leeds were celebrated at a special event at the Civic Hall on Wednesday evening (24 June 2015).
The event was organised by local councillors on the Inner South Community Committee to say thank you for the thousands of hours of voluntary work put in by ordinary people who want to make their community a better place. Volunteers are central to running sports clubs, putting on community galas, running older people’s lunch clubs, tenants and residents associations and many more local organisations.
The evening gave volunteers a chance to meet people from other, similar groups to swap tips and experiences. A range of organisations such as the Police, Groundwork, Leeds Community Foundation and Housing Leeds were on hand to offer help and support. There was also an opportunity to chat with councillors as they mingled with those present. Unfortunately councillors from City & Hunslet ward were not able to be present.
