Girls’ rugby is thriving in South Leeds with three teams now representing HRF Corinthians.
Hunslet Rugby Foundation partnered with Leeds Corinthians three years ago to establish a junior section known as HRF Corinthians. Since then, more than 50 girls have taken part in rugby activities across both codes, Rugby League and Rugby Union.
HRF’s Community Strategy & Development Officer Lily said:
“The girls’ rugby section here at HRF Corinthians has grown tremendously over the past year. When I started last year, we had just one girls’ team. Since then, we’ve expanded to two teams playing regular competitive rugby, with a third team set to join the league next season.
“In my new role, I’ll be working alongside Michael to continue growing our girls’ section. Our ambition is to provide opportunities for as many girls as possible to get involved in rugby, develop their skills, and enjoy being part of a fantastic team environment.
“We’re currently recruiting girls in school years Y4 to Y11, so if you’d like to give rugby a try, we’d love to hear from you!”
Michael Nuttall, Foundation Manager, added:
“We have a fantastic setup here, supported by dedicated coaches and a great group of girls who train and play rugby every week. Training numbers continue to grow steadily, and we are keen to build on this momentum by further expanding our girls’ section at HRF Corinthians.
“Alongside welcoming more girls into the sport, we are also looking to recruit additional volunteers who are passionate about supporting and developing the girls section”
One parent was full of praise, saying:
“We’ve tried a few different teams with my daughter, but bringing her to HRF Corinthians has been one of the best decisions we’ve made. The coaches are incredibly supportive, welcoming, and genuinely care about every player.
“The improvement we’ve seen in her confidence, skills, and maturity has been amazing and so rewarding to watch. Seeing her play every Saturday is one of the highlights of my week.
“The coaches consistently go above and beyond, and the respect the girls have for them speaks volumes. Whether it’s delivering enjoyable training sessions, keeping parents informed with regular updates, organising sponsorship opportunities, or arranging team socials, they put so much time and effort into creating a positive environment for both the players and their families”
HRF Corinthians currently have an U14s and an U12s and are also welcoming a new U11s team from next season.
Training is Tuesdays and Thursdays at Leeds Corinthians next to Middleton Leisure Centre.
