Roads poilcing in Belle Isle and Midldeton

The Neighbourhood Policing Team have been continuing their work under the Vision Zero initiative to make the roads safer in Belle Isle and Middleton.

As well as supporting investigations into the recent death of a pedestrian in a fatal road traffic collision, they have been carrying out patrols in the area.

In just one day last week 14 drivers were stopped:

7 tickets were issued for speeds of 30–34mph in 20mph zones.

2 drivers were reported to court for doing 36 & 37mph in a 20 zone.

1 driver was found to have a revoked/refused licence, no insurance and a lock knife in the vehicle during a stop search

4 drivers doing 25–30mph in a 20 zone received words of advice

Separately, a driver has been charged after being stopped and subsequent blood test results showed Cocaine and Benzoylecgonine (a breakdown product of cocaine) significantly over the legal limits.

Another individual was arrested in the Windmill Close area after attempting to evade officers. They were stop-searched and arrested on suspicion of driving over the drug limit for Cannabis.

On Facebook officers commented:

“As part of our Town Street and Belle Isle Road patrols, we’ve been conducting speed checks and targeting offences under the Vision Zero initiative. Shockingly, one driver was caught doing 47mph in a 20mph zone—more than double the speed limit.

“We continue focusing on offences including speeding, seatbelt use, mobile phone use, drink and drug driving, and dangerous driving particularly around the use of motorbikes

“Road safety remains a top priority, and we urge the public to report any vehicles or motorcycles suspected of committing driving offences. Your reports help us take action.

“Did you know?

“Drivers under the influence of drugs are up to 30 times more likely to be involved in a collision (source: National Institute on Drug Abuse).

“Let’s work together to keep our roads safe.”

  1. While it is great that your out doing all this your never about at the time that mortar bikes are doing wheelies up and down belle isle road and what about all the electric bikes doing the same it is ridiculous at the amount of this that goes on they just blatantly have no road sense I have had to emergency brake several times when they just cross roads or decide to do a U-turn in front of you my wife’s nerves are shot to say the least she has stopped driving

  2. About time they did some speed checks on Newhall Road, some of the speeds done going down from Town street and also coming up from Belle Isle are well above the speed for this road.
