Process to find new GP provider moves forward

Following on from our report last week about the future of Middleton Park surgery, the formal process of finding a new provider has been given the green light.

A spokesperson for the NHS Leeds Clinical Commissioning Groups Partnership (CCG) said:

“The Primary Care Commissioning Committee met in public on Tuesday 30 January to make a decision about the future of Swillington, Rothwell and Middleton GP surgeries.

“The committee confirmed the decision that Rothwell and Middleton GP surgeries will continue to operate as main surgeries and will now go through a procurement process to identify new providers.

“The committee is in the process of confirming this with local patients and stakeholders following the decision today.”

GP services are currently provided by Grange Medicare Ltd. Their contract expires later this year and they have indicated that they do not wish to extend it. Market testing by the CCG before Christmas indicated that there were a number of providers who would tender for the contract and it is therefore very unlikely that the surgery would close.
