Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man and woman died following a road traffic collision in Beeston.
Betty Laird, aged 88, had been the front seat passenger in a Renault Kangoo that was involved in a collision with a Volkswagen Passat in Old Lane, Beeston, at about 2.20pm on Wednesday 10 September. The Kangoo had been turning right into the Co-op car park, next to the junction with St Anthony’s Drive, when it was in collision with the Passat which was travelling in the opposite direction.
She was taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment but was pronounced dead later that day. The driver of the Kangoo, 77-year-old Herbert Geoffrey Grimshaw, was taken ill two days later and subsequently died in LGI at the weekend.
Sergeant Carl Quinn, of West Yorkshire Police Major Collision Enquiry Team, said:
“We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who can provide information about the manner of driving of either vehicle immediately prior to this incident.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC 3079 David Gough at the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 01924 293047 or via 101.
I would like to complain about the site on Barkly Road, owned by the Aspiring Community Group.
The site is now becoming a mess and they should clean it up. Things are being thrown into and over the fence, in the ginnel between the site and the garage.
It’s about time they looked after the area and not let it go to rack and ruin, after all, it is their responsibility.
