Ping Pong for the people

Whilst everyone has been spending more time at home, people have been thinking of new ways to keep entertained.

Peter Thompson from PingPong4U, who is well known across the city for his passion for the game of Ping Pong, quickly set about making up some home packs. These are ideal for those that have enjoyed the game within his existing sessions, and also for new families who may have never played before.

Adapted Ping Pong Activities are a range of fun games that can be played by any age and all abilities to create physical and mental stimulation. Its a game can be played in small spaces, both indoors and outdoors, and adapted so all ages can join in.

Working together with Active Leeds and other partners, packs have been distributed via Holbeck Together, Re-Establish youth group, Kidz Klub families and to some families via Community Connectors. The sets have been funded by Leeds Community Foundation, Get Set Leeds Local and AC Education. Peter is working with partners to identify funding so that many more can benefit.

Families have been grateful for the Ping Pong packs as these comments show:

“When we got stuck inside because of Covid-19 I was struggling to keep my son occupied … we’re so grateful for the ping pong set! (It’s) his daily favourite”

“We love the packs, they are fantastic”

“My son has just been playing on his computer, we’re thankful of something new to get him up doing something fun”

Plans are now being made to send out simple weekly challenges for people to do at home, hopefully with some guest celebrity appearances! Peter loves the game, and is excited to see the love of this sport growing across the area, and the city.

Get Set Leeds Local have a Ping Pong pack to give away to a lucky winner. Give them a follow on their new Facebook page @GSLHolbeckandBeestonHill and watch out for the opportunity to win some Ping Pong equipment.
