A couple living in Middleton are set to be evicted from their home after continued anti-social behaviour.
This follows a Closure Order secured by Leeds City Council at Leeds County Court on 19 March for 84 Bodmin Crescent, Middleton, which will mean occupants Mr Matthew Banks and Ms Tracey Alger have to leave the property immediately. In February of this year, a Notice of Termination Order was served on the couple after repeated attempts by the council to work with the pair saw no significant improvements in their conduct.
Since living at the property, the couple have participated in a range of anti-social behaviour, which has included the playing of loud music, swearing, arguing and making threats to neighbours. An injunction with the power to arrest and Harassment Orders were granted against the couple, with Ms Alger subsequently breaching the former.
Leeds Anti-Social Behaviour Team (LASBT), Housing Leeds and West Yorkshire Police have worked in partnership to secure the Closure Order in this case.
Councillor Peter Gruen, chair of Safer Leeds said:
“We are determined with our partners to crack down on anti-social behaviour in our communities, and I am pleased therefore that this Closure Order was granted by the court to evict this couple, who have blighted the lives of other residents living in this community of Middleton. We have only taken this action after giving the residents many opportunities to work with us.
“I hope the tough action that we have taken sends out a very clear message that the council does not tolerate this type of behaviour, and that every power at our disposal will be taken to ensure it is stopped.”
Inspector Chris Bowen, Holbeck Neighbourhood Policing Team said:
“It is completely unacceptable for people to behave in a way that impacts on their neighbours’ quality of life and we will not tolerate it. This case clearly shows the sort of action we can take alongside our partners in the council to bring a lasting long-term solution.
“We hope it will serve as a clear warning to people who refuse to listen to advice and think they can get away with making their neighbours’ lives a misery.”
