New housing for Beeston’s Parkwood estate

New affordable housing is to be built by Unity Housing on the Parkwood estate in Beeston.

The development of 18 two and three bedroom houses is on the site of maisonettes that were demolished some years ago. The plans work around a sloping site and a mature willow tree by forming a new close off Parkwood Road to the north.

Leeds City Council will sell the land to Unity at a ‘less than best’ price in return for their commitment to build ‘affordable’ homes and to house people from the Council’s housing list. ‘Affordable’ rents are defined as 80% of private market rent levels. Unity has just completed a similar project on Brown Lane East in Holbeck.

It is understood that work on the new homes could start as soon as July 2015 and construction is expected to last 12 months.
