The ever popular South Leeds Music Centre, based out of Morley Newlands Primary School has recently expanded its range of classes offered. The exciting new initiative will now give attending students the opportunity to play in a variety of ensembles, in addition to the individual and group instrumental lessons already offered.
ArtForms’ diverse background of staff has allowed for an array of different ensembles to be launched simultaneously. Huddersfield based brass aficionado Paul Kirk now leads an exciting new project for all manner of brass instruments. Welcome to all abilities, the group hopes to nurture the next generation of brass band superstars.
For the wannabe rockers out there, guitar instructor David Smith runs the centre’s rock band. Open to guitarists, drummers and singers, students have the opportunity to learn some of the all-time classics. Alternatively, if singing is your cup of tea, South Leeds Music Centre is now delighted to offer a choir. Also open to all abilities, under the instruction of expert singing instructor Diane Tremayne students can experience the great joy that group singing provides.
Finally, for intermediate and advanced students there is the space to explore the creative aspect of learning an instrument. Directed by recent Leeds College of Music jazz graduate Kieran Gunter, lessons will include learning music by ear, an introduction to the basics of improvisation and a focus on musical genres from different cultures. All instruments are welcome!
As any professional musician will tell you, playing with other musicians is a hugely important part of their trade. Because of this, South Leeds Music Centre is currently running a special offer until Christmas: half-price ensembles with every tuition class booked. All the staff are hopeful that a great deal of current and future students will take advantage of this great opportunity.
The centre is closed for half term on 22 and 29 October 2016, classes start again on 5 November.
