Me and my 99th Parkrun

Quote from Parkrun HQ

“Cross Flatts parkrun results for event #176. Your time was 00:45:26.

Congratulations on completing your 99th parkrun and your 99th at Cross Flatts parkrun today.

You finished in 175th place and were the 102nd male out of a field of 178 parkrunners and you came 2nd in your age category VM65-69.
Your PB at Cross Flatts parkrun remains 00:44:00. Congratulations on your fastest time this year.”

kenWas saving till next week on my 100th parkrun to try and go for a (pb) Personal Best.
Anyway saw Andre, All the ladies love Andre, good looking. Think he’s French.

He was looking for someone who would like to tag along with him. What he does is put a time on his back and all you have to do is keep up with him, to do that time.
I asked him to put a 48 minutes on his back for me, which he did. Previous been hitting 50 minutes mark.

Andre pushed me all the way, even running up hill which I have not done before.
Kept telling me on track for 48 minutes on every turn he knew if I’m up with the time.
Only on last 500 yards did he say your on time to do 46 minutes.

The last straight was hard as about 100 or so extra runners from South Leeds Stadium, was coming down the track on their way home. Everyone knew what I was trying to achieve and cheered me on. Anyway I dodged around them all.
I was tired at the finish line, my knee hurt.
So not only did I beat 48 minutes, but did a 45.26 minutes finish. This is best time this year. I came second in my age category. My pedometer says I run 8 minutes, and walked 40 minutes. 8 Minutes running is a lot for me.

Has everyone knows struggled for some time with my knee. The Doctor said  the only thing is to have a replacement knee and in the meantime referred me for Physio. I saw the Physio at St Georges on Friday. After many questions and bending me knee everyway possible, said the Osteoarthritis in my knee has gradually got worse over the last 12 years since I 1st got diagnosed.

After telling her how much walking I do, been told to cut down on this, on when I do walk have frequent rests. I have decided after talks with the Physio, not to go ahead with the knee replacement, as I can’t see me being unable to go out for 6 Months.

I have already decided that next Saturday (my 100th) will be my last, will do marshalling instead.
That way just concentrate on my Walking group at BITMO GATE and occasional 4 mile walk to memory café in Rothwell.
On a walking Holiday from Monday for a few days in Scarborough, but will back for my 100th parkrun next Saturday, hope to see you all there.ken123

My memory walk for Alzheimer’s is on the 24th September at Temple Newsom. Thanks for the money sponsored so far, still time to sponsor me.

I’m still looking for a lift to Temple Newsom if anyone going, expenses paid. Will get bus home.

The BITMO GATE Walk and Talk group. I have been leading this group for a year on the 5th October. Please come along and have an hour walk on this occasion, from 12pm,  with a party afterword’s at THE GATE. The Walk is now Dementia Friendly. Thanks to Sarah and Carla, who I meet up with to make this possible.
Bye for now.

  1. Congratulations Kenneth! I have run the Cross Flatts ParkRun a couple of times and it is the toughest one in the city due to the ascent from the Dewsbury Road end!! Keep up the good work and best of luck for number 100.
