Important meeting regarding South Leeds Life

The future of South Leeds Life is going to be discussed at an important meeting next week.
Some of the South Leeds Life crew: Dave, Steve, John, Laura & Jeremy

The blog is run and owned by the community and as such we’re looking at the possibility of becoming a formal community group as a first step to some more ambitious plans.

This would mean we’re run by a committee – with a chairman, treasurer, secretary etc.
We’re looking at taking this first step so that we are in a position to apply for funding for further projects such as running community reporter training, or producing publicity materials. There are also several opportunities for national funding to develop hyperlocal blogs like South Leeds Life – some are covered in our report on the Talk About Local Unconference at the weekend.
We will also sketch out some future options such as becoming a social enterprise. The more ambitious we are as a blog in terms of content/employing people, the tighter our organisation will have to be with policies and procedures. So this is a very live debate with very real implications.
The meeting will be on Tuesday 15th May at 11am at Hillside. This will be a very important meeting for the future direction of South Leeds Life and the meeting is open to attend. If you cannot attend, please email any comments to southleedslife@gmail.com and we’ll relay them to the meeting.
New contributors to this blog are always welcome. We can offer full help and support to develop your writing skills, photography, or audio and video. Get in touch if you’re inmterested or come along next Tuesday.
