Healthy communities are Better Together

An afternoon of family fun is taking place at Hamara Healthy Living Centre on Tempest Road, Beeston LS11 6RD on Thursday (11 May 2017) 12-2pm to celebrate the launch of a new council-funded service to promote healthy communities – Better Together.

There will be a range of activities for all the family, including ‘taster’ sessions of gentle exercise, health ‘MOTs’, henna make up and lunch will be available.  All this is FREE to local residents.

The service brings together 3 charities with strong track records of delivering high quality community health and wellbeing services in Beeston, Belle Isle, Cottingley, Holbeck, Hunslet and Middleton.  Health For All is the lead partner, working with Hamara and Asha Neighbourhood Project to reduce social isolation, improve lives, promote health &wellbeing and build confidence & skills. A range of activities will be offered under the contract with the Council, including:

  • Confidence building
  • Mental wellbeing
  • Coping with bereavement
  • English conversation clubs
  • Cooking skills
  • Home skills
  • Gardening
  • Budgeting skills
  • IT courses,
  • Supporting the development of small volunteer led/self-help groups in the community and advocacy and peer support for the most vulnerable.
