Goodbye Middleton Arms, old friend

[slideshow]The bulldozers have moved in at last on the Middleton Arms.

The 87-year-old pub has been a real landmark in the area – and sparked some (mostly) fond memories from people living in south Leeds. The Arms was complete with an upstairs ballroom and was initially opened as a hotel in 1925.

But last December planning permission was granted for a new Aldi supermarket. And a matter of days later arsonists damaged the pub.

Here’s what former regulars have been saying on the Middleton Arms facebook page:

Claire Louise O’Hara : So she’s really going, the old girl, Miggy won’t be the same xx
Josie Burnett: RIP my old friend – and thank you for the fantastic (mostly) memories xxx
Joanne Fletcher: Celebrating my bday by watching my beloved pub been demolished. Alot of memories going wiv it 🙁
Debra Morton ive just passed it and see them demolishing it.  It’s so sad.
