Get creative for Christmas and win prizes

We are inviting people across South Leeds to share their creativity this festive season as part of a new community competition organised in partnership with the LS11 Lantern Festival and South Leeds Life.

The competition theme is “That’s What Christmas Means To Me”, and we would love people of all ages to get involved. Entries can take many creative forms, including a poem, piece of artwork, short story, photograph, or any other creative response to the theme.

Whether you prefer to work alone or as part of a group, everyone is welcome to enter. The competition is open to three age categories: primary school-aged children, secondary school-aged children, and adults.

A prize of a £25 shopping voucher will be awarded to the winner of each category, with an overall first prize of a £50 shopping voucher going to the competition’s standout entry.

The winners will be announced at the LS11 Lantern Festival, which takes place in Cross Flatts Park on Friday 11 December. We will display as many entries as possible at the event and winning entries will also be published in South Leeds Life’s January edition, giving local artists, writers, photographers and creators the chance to showcase their talents to the wider community.

How to enter:

Scan the QR code to enter or access the form on this web address: tinyurl.com/bdz47h9h

You can also enter via email. Send your name, age, phone number and picture of your entry to LS11lanternfestival@gmail.com (If you are under 18, this must be sent by a parent or guardian who consents to you entering the competition).

The closing date for entries is Friday 4 December 2026.

Whether Christmas means family, friendship, faith, fun, food, community, or something completely different, we are looking forward to seeing the imagination and creativity of South Leeds residents brought to life. We invite you to take part in this competition and to join us on 11th December to celebrate Christmas at the Lantern Festival!

Further details about this year’s Lantern Festival will be announced soon.

South Leeds Life is published by a not-for-profit social enterprise. We keep our costs as low as possible but we’ve been hit by increases in the print costs for our monthly newspaper which have doubled in the last two years.
