Residents of the Cottingley Hall estate, including D-Day hero Bill Cutler, gathered to mark Remembrance Day today (Friday 11 November 2016).
Children from Cottingley Primary Academy read the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ as part of a service led by Sharon D’Ambrosio. The children have been studying the First World War and brought wreaths to decorate the Cottingley Christmas tree.
Vikki Blake, chair of Cottingley Hall TRAC residents group, who organised the event said:
“It’s so important that we don’t forget the sacrifice made by soldiers, sailors and airmen.
“I want to thank everyone who came to the ceremony, especially Year 6 from Cottingley Primary Academy; also the ladies from the Community Centre who did so much to help and to Sharon for leading the service.”
The service closed with The Last Post and the two minute silence. After the service the children took turns to shake Bil’s hand and thank him.
