Big Green Open Day at Skelton Grange on Saturday

Skelton Grange Environment Centre and Hollybush Conservation Centre in Leeds are celebrating 55 years of The Conservation Volunteers! The two charity centres are combining their efforts to create a really special event and Skelton Grange will be flinging open its doors to visitors for its open day on Saturday (4 October 2014) as part of The Conservation Volunteers’ Big Green Weekend.

Skelton Open Day 14

This special open day is a great opportunity for the people of Leeds to find out what Skelton Grange and Hollybush have to offer and to get close to nature through a huge range of activities. It will be the place to be if you want to: weave some willow, do some rag rugging, wander in the woods, try out some woodcraft techniques, cook over a campfire, test your circus skills with Leeds Children’s Circus, find out more about spoon carving, get the buzz about bee keeping and more! Skelton Grange will be providing amazing food from the famous Dragon Fired Pizza Oven and homemade cake stall, which you can wash down with some locally brewed ale from Meanwood’s Ridgeside Brewery, a glass of juice or a steaming hot cup of tea or coffee. All this will be going on whilst you listen to music echoing across the meadows.

Ralph Walker – Project Administrator at Skelton Grange Environment Centre said

Skelton Tug of war“This really has been an amazing year for both Skelton Grange and Hollybush and we’re very keen to celebrate all the amazing work we’ve done with our remarkable volunteers, local schools and the wider community at our annual Open Day. We also have loads of other events going on at the centre to try and raise funds for our charitable work and the general public are now able to book onto an exciting events schedule of Wild Food Walks, Bushcraft Adventures, Theatre performances and our Zombie Apocalypse Adventure at the end of October which is already proving to be very popular!”

The Conservation Volunteers help hundreds of thousands of people each year to reclaim local green places.  Skelton Grange Environment Centre in Leeds was opened 22 years ago and Hollybush has been running for over 30 years. The Open day is part of a wider schedule of events happening across Europe as part of The Conservation Volunteers Big Green Weekend. The Conservation Volunteers have given so much time and effort to create this beautiful nature reserve whilst delivering an exciting education programme for visitors. Get along and find out how you can be involved, as a volunteer, a supporter or a visitor, and they promise you a great day out.

The day will run from 11am til 4pm. Full details including directions can be found on the website www.tcv.org.uk/skeltongrange or by visiting www.facebook.com/SkeltonGrangeEnvironmentCentre Skelton Grange’s Open Day is made possible with the kind support of:
