Belle Isle Community Action Group

On Wednesday 21 November 2018 I joined local Belle Isle residents who met to form a new Community Group to discuss and plan a way to solve local issues, but also to help develop new community events. The meeting was held at the newly opened Welcome Centre (previously Belle Isle Family Centre) at St John & St Barnabas Church, Belle Isle Road, Belle Isle, Leeds, LS10 3PG.

The group adopted a new constitution, a new committee and are looking forward to working with our local councillors, council officers and most of all, local residents. The group was named, “Belle Isle Community Action Group”, the committee was elected as follows;

  • Secretary: Vicky Coetzee
  • Chair: Wayne Dixon
  • Treasurer: Alison Waite
  • General members: Father Martin Charlesworth, Sue Brearley and Teresa Mack

You can download the constitution here: BICG 2018 Final Constitution

The group will focus on Belle Isle, but will also include Hunslet in its remit as the areas are traditional linked closely together. The group will be looking at developing links with other local groups, developing local galas and other initiatives such as a welcome pack for new residents to the area and a questionnaire to ask people their opinions.

The group is looking for residents to get involved with our next community meeting and we also have space on our committee for those willing to get more involved.

The Welcome Centre Café is now open on a weekday for Breakfast at subsidised rates, please pop into the centre to find out about the plans for new groups.

NEXT MEETING:

Wednesday 5 December, 6:30pm
@ The Welcome Centre (previously Belle Isle Family Centre) at St John & St Barnabas Church, Belle Isle Road, Leeds, LS10 3PG.

Find our page on Facebook @BelleIsleCAG and I look forward to seeing as many people as possible on Wednesday evening.
