Belle Isle and Middleton gear up for Christmas

[slideshow]A host of seasonal activities started in Belle Isle and Middleton this week marking the start of the festive season in South Leeds.

The activities kicked off in Belle Isle yesterday as hundreds of people flocked to South Leeds Youth Hub for the Belle Isle Christmas market and a special appearance from Leeds Rhinos player, Paul McShane, and Santa. Check out our slideshow above.

The events will continue on today at Health for All’s Tenants Hall Enterprise Centre where there will also be a Christmas market serving up hot food and mulled wine, the sale of unique seasonal gifts and another visit from Santa Claus (4-6pm).

The festivities will be capped off by the ceremonial switch-on of the Middleton Circus Christmas tree lights on Thursday 15th December.

Councillor Kim Groves (Middleton Park) said:

“[Today’s market] will be a perfect opportunity not only to meet people and take in the entertainment on offer, but also to do some Christmas shopping and get some personalised gifts for family and friends.

“It would be fantastic for as many people as possible to join us in support of these great community events, enjoy a mince pie or two, perhaps a glass of mulled wine, and spread a little bit of festive cheer in the run-up to Christmas. I look forward to seeing many of you there.”
