Work to modernise an inner-city play area is to be completed this week.

Beggars Hill play area at the end of Malvern Street and Buckton View in Beeston has undergone a complete refurbishment.

The old play equipment has been removed and replaced with modern facilities including a climbing frame, basket swing, and round-about. All the new play facilities will be installed on safer surfacing and new seats around the playground have been installed along with litter bins.

The council says new play equipment was chosen via  consultation with local residents. The equipment was chosen for its durability, play value and  to help engage children in imaginative play, the equipment caters for children up to an including 14 years of age.

Councillor Angela Gabriel (Beeston & Holbeck) said:

“It is fantastic that children will soon have some much-needed modern play facilities. Being so close to the city centre, it is really important that children in this area have open spaces where they can play safely and enjoy themselves.

“It is fantastic that local residents, especially local children, have played their part in the plans for this play area, making it a reflection of what they have asked for. It is them who will benefit from this fantastic community facility so it is only fitting that they have been closely involved.

“The wait will soon be over and hopefully the playground will be ready in time for the coming weekend.”
