The Beeston Hill Community Association (BHCA) has been going for just over a year now, beginning with it’s first community meeting in May 2023.
Since launching, the BHCA has held community meetings at The Hamara Centre on Tempest Road every two months. We’ve welcomed lots of different local residents across these meetings and have explored a range of important local issues. Our Hunslet & Riverside Councillors attend these meetings, so it is a good opportunity to share any concerns and have questions answered.
This community-led group aims to give residents of Beeston Hill* the opportunity to get to know neighbours, share their views on community life and be heard. We hope to celebrate what is strong in our community, not simply focus on what is wrong. We would love to see residents getting to know one another, working together to speak up for the area and bring about change.
Since the start of 2024 the BHCA have facilitated a well attended public meeting in January to get residents views on the proposed changes to the Tempest Road/Dewsbury Road junction and a successful Community Iftar event in March. Both events were brilliant evenings and showed how we can come together as a community around significant events.
As part of our last meeting on 20 May we took part in a Playzone consultation. This is a project which is planned for Cross Flatts Park – looking to develop the Multi Use Games Area. The BHCA is encouraging local residents and frequent users of the park to complete the Playzone survey, especially as the deadline has now been extended to Friday 31 May. This can be done quickly and easily online at: surveys.leeds.gov.uk/s/RYRDWX
Local resident and committee member Graham says:
“BHCA is a strong and good connection for me to the local community. The meetings allow me to listen to local views and keep in touch on important issues.”
If you live in the area and want to make our community better we would LOVE to hear from you – please get involved!

Our next meeting will be on Monday 29 July, 6:30-8pm at The Hamara Centre, Tempest Road. We are planning to focus on the increasing drug issues in the area. This will be a chance for residents to share their experiences and find out what is and can be done to tackle this huge issue. We hope you can join us.
*Beeston Hill Community Association covers the old red brick housing around the Tempest Road area, down to Dewsbury Road, including areas such as the Harlechs, Woodviews, Stratfords and all surrounding streets.
