Drivers who gave details of a man who had died in 2001 to try and avoid prosecution have been sentenced after being caught out by police investigators.
Two men and two women were sentenced at Bradford Crown Court between 5 and 7 August 2026, for perverting the course of justice by using the details of a man who died in 2001 to try and evade offences including speeding.
All four, who are unknown to each other, submitted the details of the man as the driver in five separate traffic offences between 16 July 2020 and 21 April 2024.
The West Yorkshire Prosecutions and Casualty Prevention Unit, which works to make roads safer and brought the prosecution, has warned those who try to avoid justice will be found out following the case.
Those convicted at court were:
• Ajmal Khan, aged 32, of Middleton Crescent, Leeds. He was sentenced on 7 August to eight months in prison (suspended for two years) for committing an act/series of acts with intent to pervert the course of public justice . Khan admitted submitting the man’s details when his vehicle was caught travelling at 60mph in a 40mph zone on Stanningley Road on 6 September 2020.
• Sarah Hanif, aged 33, of Great Russell Street, Bradford.
• Shahad Aljammoor, aged 37 of Carr Bottom Avenue, Bradford.
• Naheed Razaq, aged 49, of Avenel Terrace, Bradford.
The four defendants were caught after police enquires to trace the details of the man they submitted established he was in fact long deceased.
Rachel Wainwright of the Digital Submission and Investigation Team, said:
“We welcome the sentencing of all four of these people who attempted to blame a deceased man to try and escape justice for offences committed in their vehicles.
“Instead, all have been brought to justice for their deceit and their waste of valuable time and resource in what has been really shameful offending.”
She added: “Our team is highly experienced at investigating those who attempt to evade prosecution for traffic offences. I continue to urge anyone who has footage of traffic offences or dangerous driving to submit it to our Safer Roads Submissions portal at West Yorkshire Safer Roads – Op Snap | West Yorkshire Police“
