Aleks brings back Silver

Aleksander Smith from Middleton has brough back a Silver medal from the WKC World Kickboxing Championships in Orlando, Florida, where he was representing his country.

Having beaten American and Scottish fighters, Aleks narrowly missed out on Gold in the final on 27 October 2023. His mum Dorota Smith said:

“Aleksander fought an excellent final. I honestly believed he might have done just enough to get the decision but lost the final by split decision to take silver medal for England.

“What a great fight it was too and it was such a fine margin. We are super proud of his effort and this was easily the best fight I’ve ever seen from Aleks.

“I would love to say thank you to BMMA Morley and Leeds, Steve Frost, Charlotte Craighill and all the BMMA gang who have trained Aleks over the last two years.

“A special mention to Si Dixon who sat in his corner this week, learned how Aleks fights and gave him the advice and direction to beat the American favourite 20kgs heavier than him, to beat the semi finalist and give a very special account of himself against the very lanky more experienced Scottish fighter in the final.

“It was wonderful to watch.”
