It’s that time of the year again when we start thinking about Christmas.
It’s difficult to imagine some children and young people won’t get a gift at Christmas. The truth is that some areas in Leeds have families that don’t have enough resources to buy presents.
As a charity, The Works Skatepark has asked, ‘What can we do?’ One answer was The Christmas Bike campaign. Now in its third year, we fix up old, forgotten and outgrown bikes and give them to children and young people who are from disadvantaged backgrounds in Leeds.
Would you or your business like to help donate a bike (or bikes) for Christmas?
We can recycle and reuse discarded bikes (of all sizes). As long as they are in fixable condition, we give them refurbished bike to children and young people at Christmas who don’t already have a bike.
Recipients of the recycled bikes are also offered free bike maintenance, cycling tuition and free membership to The Works Skatepark.
We hope the children can access the skatepark on their ‘new’ bikes and see how we can help them further within our provision. Donations are open now.

It’s about giving children and young people better life chances and showing them that people in Leeds care. What better time to do this than at Christmas.”

The Works also run free courses for young people (16-19) who are not in education, employment or training.
The courses are 16 hours a week over three days. They include free breakfast and lunch each day; free climbing and skate park each day; and free bus fare.
