Are you interested in supporting and improving children’s education in South Leeds? If so, why not consider becoming a school governor?
School governors come from all sectors of society, ethnic backgrounds and ages and are the largest and most important volunteer force in education. You don’t need to be a parent or have any formal qualifications to become a governor, but you do need a willingness to listen and to contribute to a team, have time to commit to a local school and the desire to improve education in the community.
Being a governor is a fantastic opportunity to give something back to the local community as well as learning new skills. Meetings are usually in the early evening, last a couple of hours and take place roughly twice a term. Free training is provided for governors.
Hilary Benn, MP for Leeds Central said:
“Volunteering to be a school governor is really important and worthwhile. Our children deserve the best start in life and you can help them by getting involved in your local school. “
Schools in South Leeds are seeking new governor volunteers from a variety of different professional backgrounds. Governing Bodies play a crucial part in raising school standards in three key capacities: setting strategic direction, monitoring school performance and ensuring the school’s finances are appropriately accounted for. Governors offer a fresh pair of eyes, as well as professional knowledge and skills.
