The BBC has proved again why it’s light years ahead of local press – in Leeds, anyway – by producing a compelling map of road deaths across the country, highlighting dangerous roads.
Using official data recorded by police in Great Britain between 1999 and 2010, the BBC has plotted every road collision in which someone died. In all, 36,371 fatalities are marked on the interactive map.

South Leeds has had its share of tragedies, but doesn’t seem as badly affected as some other parts of the city. Particular hotspots include Dewsbury Road near the White Rose Centre and near the Middleton Arms and Middleton Park Avenue area.
