A local pupil has proved to be a budding artist after being crowned the winner of a competition launched by White Rose Shopping Centre, in partnership with Leeds City Council, to promote tomorrow’s Middleton Park bonfire.
Grace Coyle, age six, from Middleton St. Mary’s Primary School was chosen as the winner of the competition after beating off tough competition from primary schools in the South Leeds area.
The competition, to design a poster to promote the bonfire and fireworks display at Middleton Park on 5 November, certainly sparked the imagination of pupils, with over 100 entrants into this year’s contest.
The winning poster was carefully chosen by a panel of judges from both White Rose and Leeds City Council. As her prize for winning the competition Phoebe will have opportunity to light the first sparks of the Middleton Park fireworks display and Middleton St. Mary’s Primary School will be gifted with £100 worth of gardening vouchers.
James Bailey, centre director at White Rose, said:
“The competition was a great opportunity for local primary school children to celebrate Bonfire Night and educate them on the importance of being safe on the 5 November. We were very impressed with all of this year’s entries, but Grace’s really stood out.
“White Rose is proud to be sponsoring the Middleton Park bonfire for the fourth year running and we look forward to a fantastic night with the local community, which is set to be our biggest and best year yet.”
