Help available to quit smoking in Stoptober

The Stoptober challenge starts today, 1 October. Stoptober is the 28 day national stop smoking challenge – it is returning following its launch last year.

StoptoberResearch shows that people who manage to stop smoking for 28 days are five times more likely to stop for good and last year, over 160,000 people successfully quit in the nation’s biggest mass participation stop smoking challenge ever. Why not add to that number this Stoptober?

23% of adults in Leeds still smoke and it remains the nation’s biggest killer with half of long-term smokers dying prematurely from a smoking disease. Someone who quits smoking for Stoptober, and doesn’t smoke again, could gain an extra seven days of life, every 28 days, for the rest of their life. Along with the health benefits, quitting saves the average smoker over £150 a month and almost £2,000 a year.

Anyone interested in participating in Stoptober, can register to receive a free Stoptober toolkit which will provide you with a variety of resources to support you on your quit attempt. Pharmacist in Leeds are also supporting the campaign and willing be supplying Stoptober toolkits free of charge to participants doing the 28 day Stoptober challenge.  Search Stoptober online for more details.
