What’s On Roundup 8-14 August 2026

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.

We start this week with the Middleton Pop Up Market. You’ll find lots of lovely handmade items including clothing, jewelery, soaps and food; all made by local people at Middleton Park Circus from 10am-2pm.

Over in Belle Isle Trinity Network host their Community Reflections Café on Saturday 10am-12pm at the United reformed Church, Nesfield Avenue, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG

Middleton Railway will be having a quiet morning on Saturday from 10-11:45am, designed to make your visit calmer and less overwhelming for visitors with sensory sensitivities. They will also be running diesel services all weekend to avoid inadvertently setting off any trackside fires. However, an engine will be in steam at Moor Road station. And don’t forget they also run on Wednesdays through August and it’s kids-for-a-quid throughout the month.

Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club’s First XI play Daisy Hill CC on Saturday at 12pm. The home fixture is at their ground on Gipsy Lane, opposite Cockburn School, LS11 5TT.

There is a charity Yard Sale in support of the Cat Action Trust taking place a 13 Cross Flatts Street in Beeston, LS11 7KK on Saturday, 11am-2pm.

Leeds United have a pre-season friendly against RB Leipzig, kicking off at 2pm on Saturday. You can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley before and after the match.

The Hunslet Rugby Gala takes place this weekend at the Hunslet Club Sports Village, opposite Morrisons. Featuring boys and girls in various age categories the NCL match between Hunslet ARLFC and West Bowling (Saturday, 2:30pm). On Sunday the Hunslet Legends Memorial match features teams representing Hunslet Old Boys and Hunslet Warriors. The weekend is rounded off with live music from Stephen Mone. There will also be food concessions, bouncy castles, face painting and more.

Join Better Beeston for a community litter pick. Meet on Lady Pit Lane at the junction with Stratford Street at 1pm, equipment provided.

Tingley Brass Band will be performing on the bandstand in Middleton park on Sunday afternoon 2-4pm, thanks to the Friends of Middleton Park, who will be serving refreshments in the café.

Hunslet RLFC take on Keighley Cougars in the Championship on Sunday at South Leeds Stadium, LS11 5DJ. Kick off is at 3pm, tickets from: hunsletrflc.ticketco.events, kids under 16 are free and if they are wearing their community club shirt, accompanying adults pay just £5. There is also reduced entry for Active Leeds members.

The South Leeds Community Kitchen will be cooking up a free meal on Sunday, 4-5:45pm, at St Mary’s Church, Town Street, Beeston (opposite Morrisons Daily).

There are a number of Police Contact Points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library from 10am-12pm. On Wednesday they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library. Then on Thursday they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street.

You are invited to join the Insight mental health peer support group’s sponsored walk on Wednesday. They will be walking along the River Aire to Woodlesford Lock, setting off from Sea Cadets base on Thwaite Lane at 12pm. Contact Jonny on insightmhpsg@myyahoo.com for more information.

Yorkshire Contemporary continue their free art and play sessions in Cross Flatts Park on Wednesday and Thursday, 11am-2pm.

Come along to Friday Breakfast at Cranmore & Raylands Community Centre in Belle Isle and join a Hanging Basket Workshop from 10-11:30am. No experience needed, all welcome.

And finally, MHA Communities South Leeds are holding a Moveathon on Friday at St Andrew’s Community Centre, Cardinal Road, LS11 8AG. It runs from 9am-3pm and you can join as much or as little as you like: 9am Strength & Balance; 10am Stretch & Tone; 11am Yorkshire Dance; 12pm Line Dancing; 1-3pm Ballroom Dancing.
