Woman murdered at Cottingley Towers

Police have made an arrest and launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body in Leeds.

Active enquiries are ongoing today by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) following an incident at Cottingley Towers on Friday (24 July 2026) evening.

Officers were called at about 11.40pm by a caller expressing concern for persons inside one of the flats.

Leeds police officers quickly attended at the location and on entering a flat there, discovered the body of a woman inside.

It was confirmed the victim, aged 58, had died at the scene after suffering fatal injuries.

A man, aged 52, was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

T/DCI Eleanor Buchanan of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, who is leading the investigation, said:

“This has clearly been a very serious incident, and we are investigating the circumstances of what took place at this address.

“We are continuing to hold a man in custody on suspicion of murder and specially trained officers are supporting the victim’s family at this time.

“Incidents such as this rightly cause concern among communities and I want to assure residents all necessary resources are being used to investigate what took place.

“We can advise that we do believe the incident was isolated and we are not seeking anyone else in connection with the matter.”
