I would like to start by wishing everyone a Happy New Year. I hope that you have all had a safe and happy time over Christmas and have managed to spend time with loved ones. I was fortunate enough to have time off over this period but also wanted to say thank you to my colleagues and all the other emergency services who have worked hard to keep us safe over this period.
A New Year always bring a period of reflection. Since joining the team at the end of March 2019 I have got to meet some fantastic people and already developed some great working relationships with partners, residents and communities.
I consider myself very fortunate to have this role where I get to work with such amazing people and the main thing that has struck me is how strong the communities of Inner South are and how much community spirit there is across all the areas.
As a Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) we have worked very hard this year to deliver the level of service residents of Inner South deserve.
We have had some excellent results including; a large number of arrests and other pro-active work, dealing with some really tricky neighbour disputes, tackling ASB, managing numerous critical incidents, the continual development of the Managed Approach and the partnership work that we deliver day in day out.
I can honestly say South NPT is a great team to lead and I am very proud of all our achievements over the past 12 months.
I feel that this has been a really productive year for us and we have the foundations, processes and team to be able to continue building and improving our performance and delivering an excellent service to the residents, business and communities of Inner South in 2020!
January will often bring us difficult driving conditions and therefore it is more important than ever to ensure that your vehicles are in a road worthy condition and that you take extra time to prepare for each journey.
As part of our Safer Roads Strategy we aim to ‘work together to make the West Yorkshire roads network safe and feel safe – being secure and efficient for our communities’.
We do this in a number of ways including prevention, reassurance, intelligence gathering and enforcement. Our prevention and enforcement activity is focussed around the ‘Fatal Four’ factors:
- Excessive speed
- Drink or drug driving
- Failure to wear seatbelts
- Mobile device distraction whilst driving (e.g. use of mobile phones)
In Inner South we work alongside our Safer Roads colleagues and have done a number of operations to tackle speeding concerns and the other factors detailed above.
In a period of just 7 days one of our ward officers had dealt with 3 drivers who will now be prosecuted for having no insurance (and who have now had their vehicles seized), reported 10 drivers for driving at excess speed and dealt with 1 driver who will now be prosecuted for using their mobile phone.
We will continue to work hard to tackle these issues and make the roads of Inner South as safe as possible.
