What’s On Roundup 15-21 June 2024

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week at Middleton Railway which as well as running its usual services is hosting a model railway exhibition this weekend. As well as 15 layouts in the Engine Shed, and traders stalls, there is also the opportunity to drive a full-size locomotive with their footplate experience. The exhibition is open 10am-4pm each day at Moor Road, LS10 2JQ. Suggested donation of £5.

Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club’s First XI take on Hopton Mills CC on Saturday at Gipsy Lane, Beeston, LS11 5TT starting at 12pm. Then on Sunday the Women’s team face Mount CC at 10am.

There’s a Craft fair, Car boot and community get together at Rowland Road Club in Beeston Hill (LS11 7ED) on Saturday between 12-4pm. There will be stalls selling  food, plants, knits and jewellery and plenty of activities for children.

Then from 1-4pm the Belle Isle Repair Cafe is back in BITMO’s Gate. Do you have a small item at home that you’d like the fixers to try to repair? Things like hairdryers, small kitchen appliances, games consoles, garden tools, clothing, shoes, bags and belts plus small bike repairs. Join them for a toastie and check the free school uniform on offer.

Join the Friends of Trentham Park in Beeston Hill on Saturday, 1-4pm. Make a litter pledge, help them tidy the park and pick up a free hanging basket

The Grove Inn in Holbeck is holding a two day reopening celebration party on Saturday and Sunday from 2:30pm. They’ve moved the bands inside because of the weather, but there’s still plenty of live music to be enjoyed. The party is also a fundraiser for St Gemma’s Hospice.

Slung Low present two shows this week: ‘you have already survived’ by Gobscure on Saturday at 7:30pm is ‘a truly remarkable work that forges a deep connection with those who experience it, with art that always brings love, hope and thoughtfulness.’ Then on Friday at 7:30pm join Charles and Di for a musical cruise through the cultural commonwealth of the eighties as they revisit that time when life was tough but the music was brave, as Charles and Diana: The Reunion Tour reaches Holbeck. Both shows are pay-what-you-decide. Book your free ticket at www.slunglow.org/shows and once you’ve seen the show decide how much you want to pay. Slung Low’s Warehouse In Holbeck is on Crosby Street, LS11 9RQ.

The Holbeck Club are holding a MND fundraiser on Sunday from 1pm with stalls, a barbecue and raffles. Jenkinson Lawn, LS11 9QX.

Hunslet RLFC continue their league campaign against Midland Hurricanes at South Leeds Stadium on Sunday. The kick off is at 3pm, under 16s go free. Match tickets are available from hunsletrflc.ticketco.events/uk

On Tuesday Holbeck Together host a Buddy Holly Tribute at St Matthew’s Community Centre LS11 9NR on Tuesday from 1:30-3pm. Booking is essential on (0113) 245 5553.

The SEN-Tastic group meets on Thursday. It’s open to anyone who cares for children with special needs, parents, siblings, carers, childminders and grandparents and offers coffee, friendship, advice and support. The group runs from 9:15-10:30am at St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, Beeston, LS11 8PD.

And finally, Leeds Baby Bank will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Thursday 10am-12pm offering support to people to access support services, community activity and longer-term support. They also gift families an essential top-up of items like nappies, wipes, formula and toiletries.
