Developer JM Construction (Leeds) Ltd has started work on the next phase of its £50M Victoria Riverside residential development in Hunslet.
The latest stage of construction will create 95 apartments over two mills, comprising both new build (mill e) and the sympathetic conversion of part of the former grade II and grade II* listed Hunslet and Victoria flax spinning mills (mill f). Work on this phase is expected to be completed in November 2021.
In total the full scheme will extend to 356 units across seven individual mills offering a mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments, including spectacular roof top penthouses. The phased delivery plan is scheduled for completion in 2023.
Interest in the scheme which forms part of the wider regeneration of the Hunslet Riverside area has been exceptional with JM Construction recently reporting that all 160 apartments in the four completed mills have been sold.
John Mulleady, Managing Director of JM Construction, said:
“Sales to date have been exceptional and we look forward to bringing mills e and f to market.
“We are privileged to have the opportunity to breathe new life into the site and refurbish the derelict mill buildings which were on the brink of demolition. They form part of the rich history of the city when it was once a world leader in textile manufacturing and through our sympathetic conversion will be enjoyed by future generations.”
Neil Dickens, Regional Managing Director – North of LSL Land & New Homes, said:
“JM Construction is leading the way in the regeneration of an area of the city which has, up until now, been largely overlooked by developers.
“It is within walking distance of the city centre and the nearby colleges, and offers easy access to the major road network which makes it an emerging place to live, particularly amongst students.”
