What’s On Roundup 4-10 November 2023

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week at The Tetley art gallery with the BIG UP FEST 23. This is one of the community takeover events at the gallery before it closes its doors for good in December. BIG UP FEST runs Saturday and Sunday 11am-10:30pm. The Tetley is on Hunslet Road near Leeds Bridge, LS10 1JQ.

The Handmade and Homemade Food & Craft Market and table top sale is back at Beeston Parish Centre on Town Street, opposite Nisa this Saturday. Apologies, we mistakenly told you it was on last week. You’ll find all sorts of delights from candles and plants to cakes and samosas. The market is open 11:30am-2:30pm.

The Crooked Clock, Sussex Avenue, Hunslet, LS10 2LF is holding a bonfire night celebration on Saturday. Food and stalls will be available from 4pm; the bonfire will be lit at 6pm; with the firework display at 7:30pm.

The Spinning Wheel, Admiral Street, LS11 5NG is also holding a firework display on Saturday evening. Pie & peas and hot dogs will be on sale from 6pm, DJ Alan from 7pm and the firework display at 8pm.

On Sunday, 10:45am-12pm, morning Leeds Dads have organised a Dads & Kids Walk in Middleton Park. Book at leedsdads.org/events.

There are two residents meetings taking place on Monday, starting with Middleton Community Group which meets on Monday, 6-7pm, at the Middleton Elderly Aid Social Centre, Acre Road, LS10 4LF.

Also on Monday, the Greenmounts & Surrounding Area Tenants & Residents Association meets at 6:30pm at Rowland Road Working Men’s Club, LS11 6ED.

Holbeck Together are holding a number of consultation events this week to gauge members’ views on new activities. Each discussion will be held over a light lunch. On Monday they are discussing the Men’s Group; on Tuesday support for people with chronic illness and pain; Thursday the Walking Group and Friday it’s the Carers’ Group. There are three chances to catch up with PCSOs from the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team this week. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub and Library, off Church Street; on Wednesday they will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library; and on Thursday at Beeston Community Hub and Library, Town Street. Each drop in session runs 10am-12pm.

Trinity Network hold their regular local history session on Wednesday 9:45am at Belle Isle United Reformed Church, Nesfield Road, LS10 3LG.

The Council’s Mobile Community Hub & Library will be parked up opposite Cottingley Towers on Wednesday 10am-12pm.

Windmill Primary School in Belle Isle and Low Road Primary School in Hunslet are both holding open evenings on Wednesday, 3:45pm-4:30pm, for parents of 2024 Reception starters .

Hunslet Tenants and Residents Association meet on Wednesday at 6:30pm at the Church of the Nazarene, Lupton Street, Hunslet, LS10 2QR.

And finally, on Thursday St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, LS11 8PD, are holding an over 60s coffee morning from 10am-12pm.
